Seasonal Flu Clinics
We have active partnerships with several manufacturers to ensure adequate vaccine availability. We offer two options for
seasonal influenza vaccination: the injectable vaccine and the nasal spray.
Both contain the same strains of influenza viruses that are recommended for that particular flu season, are effective and
provide similar results with minimal or no side effects. Each year, one or more of these flu strains contained in the vaccine
might be changed or altered based on the global medical research for overall influenza viruses and the potential emergence
of new strains.
Injectable Vaccine (TIV)
The injectable vaccine is the typical flu shot that requires intra-muscular administration by a qualified health professional,
usually a nurse. Most clients offer this vaccine to its participants. The injectable vaccine is most common and usually
preferred since it is more cost effective and contains a killed virus. Few side effects occur with the injectable vaccine, most
commonly slight redness and/or soreness at the injection site. The injectable vaccine is licensed for anyone age 4 and older.
Nasal spray
The intra-nasal spray is a vaccine approved for the prevention of certain types of influenza disease in children, adolescents,
and adults 2-49 years of age. A mist is sprayed into the nasal cavity, and is also administered by our qualified health
professionals. This vaccine contains a live-attenuated virus and might cause a few side effects such as a runny nose or nasal
congestion, a slight cough, and/or a sore throat.
The nasal spray is not for people with history of hypersensitivity to eggs, egg proteins, gentamicin, gelatin, or arginine;
people with life-threatening reactions to previous influenza vaccinations; and children and adolescents receiving aspirin or
aspirin-containing therapy. Children less than 24 months of age are not eligible for nasal spray vaccine.
The following people may not be eligible for nasal spray vaccine, or may be able to get it only in certain situations: people
with asthma or active wheezing, or children less than 5 years of age with recurrent wheezing; people with a history of
Guillain-Barré syndrome; people with a weakened immune system; people with long-term medical conditions including heart
disease, kidney disease, and metabolic diseases, such as diabetes; and pregnant women.
